While I was in Europe on holidays I attended one of the biggest shows held over there. Nearly 700 dobermanns entered and exhibited, from all over Europe. I have traveled with another breeder from Poland 17 hours each way, to be a spectator at the show, and with hope of finding a bitch that I would want a puppy from, or a dog that I would want my future puppy be sired by, with view of importing a pup.
There were countless numbers of outstanding animals there, and it's very difficult to see everything as the judging is done in 5-6 rings at the same time.
I have seen many very famous dogs, that currently are campaigned in Europe, and there was one that caught my eye outside the ring. His owner/handler was practicing with him and he just looked fantastic! I have checked the catalogue to see which dog it was and I knew the name.
I have approached the owner and asked if I could pet him. We started talking (lucky she spoke perfect English!) and I expressed my awe of him. She let me examine him and play with him a bit. I have asked about any health testing he might have had done and was impressed with everything I have heard. He has show titles, he has IPO titles, his health is exceptional, he has progeny that is doing well in variety of sports. I said to the owner that I'd be happy to take him home with me! As she wouldn't let me ;-) I've decided that I would have one of his puppies one day.
So we have organised for his semen to be shipped and I intend to use it one day.
